From Indie Darling to AEW Star: The Rise of Willow Nightingale

Danielle Paultre, better known in the ring as Willow Nightingale, is one of the feel‑good stories in modern
wrestling. Born in North Valley Stream, New York, she trained at the New York Wrestling Connection school
under Mike   Mondo and made her debut on 27   February   2015 .   Within a year she captured the
NYWC Starlet Championship and would regain the title in 2020 after losing it in 2019 . Nightingale’s early
run on the independent circuit showcased her high‑energy style and enduring optimism.
Beyond the NYWC, Nightingale worked in promotions such as Shimmer Women   Athletes and
Ring of Honor. Her friendly charisma – she once wrestled under the ring names Eye Candy and Willow Monet
– quickly made her a fan favourite. Nightingale’s motto “Nothing Matters… Smile Anyway” sums up her
positive outlook . Even early setbacks, such as a loss in her debut match at NYWC’s “We Can Do It” event
and a first‑round exit in the ROH Women’s World Championship tournament, couldn’t dim her enthusiasm
.
Her perseverance paid off when she appeared on AEW Dark: Elevation on 3 May 2021 and later signed
full‑time with All Elite Wrestling in October 2022 . In AEW she continued to build momentum, drawing on
her indie experience to connect with crowds. Nightingale’s bubbly persona and catchphrase “Babe with the
Power” – a nod to David Bowie’s Magic Dance – blended athleticism and entertainment. By 2024 she had
become one of AEW’s most promising stars, proving that hard work and positivity can turn an independent
darling into a mainstream success story.
